Can a bad Psychology , mess your woodworking techniques ?

I have shared to you , many times that the woodworking hobby and way of life , isn’t only a “common” hobby .

The woodworking way of life is way more than creating wood projects and admire them . Of course this isin’t a bad thing , but woodworking is deeper than that .

Woodworkers don’t compete to anyone .

For us the woodworking “lovers” , there is an “issue” that our current technology ( even if the artificial intelligence is coming hard ) , cannot describe .

In the entire web you can find whatever you want , concerning the woodworking projects , woodworking tools , equipment , techniques , personal experiences , stories , astonishing wooden ideas , brilliant inventions and in general great materials .

I know that our hobby is a life’s relaxing activity and one of the best activities you can have but we all , shouldn’t focus only in our technical areas in the woodworking activity .

Wood is an “alive” material , it has “life” , it “grows & dies” , as all the living creatures and because it is “alive” , it teach us , things .

Wood is “Smart” and knows your Psychology .

Wood can “recognize” , our psychology and “act” different in each case . No i’m not saying crazy stuff . Wood “understands” if you aren’t in the “shape” and mentality you should have , in order to work with it and “reacts” to that .

If you ask an old carpenter , he’ll confirm this , and having a “sneaky” smile in his face , he wil ask you , who told you that . If he has the mood , or is your friend he will tell you all about this , by his long experience .

He’ll tell you that the days he wasn’t in a good mood , he couldn’t sharpen his chisels . He would also say to you , that the days he had personal problems and stuff like that , he couldn’t sharpen his tools , as he wanted to do .

He would say to you that having the same chisels and the same wood piece , the same moisture , the same temperature and all the conditions , with the previous day he couldn’t sharpen them to be effective with the wood .

He sharpened them but they didn’t cut as he wanted to . He tried again , being more careful but the result was the same . No good sharpening and when he was going to the wood , he couldn’t perform .

This older and experienced carpenter will continue to you , saying that with a “magic” way when he managed to recover his psychology and brain and returned to do the woodworking project or job , everything was perfect and well .

Yes as if some “invisible” hand made everything perfect and ok .

If you are Good inside you , Woodworking is Good with you .

Now he could sharpen his chisels and other woodworking tools , he tried to do previously with zero result and “things” are going as a “swiss watch ” . The majority of the experienced carpenters (and age doesn’t matter) , knows this situation .

And of course this older carpenter didn’t have an explanation for this . And i think there is no explanation for it . It is like an invisible vibe in the area doesn’t let you perform the way you want and after a while , when you cool down , everything is ok .

Yes sometimes , this may piss you , but it’s an “unwritten law” and everyone “obeys” . Get used to it and maybe it isn’t a bad thing .

Our hobby has “personality” and needs the appropriate approach . Maybe our hobby is a “relief valve” for all the “trush” we carry .

So if some day , your woodworking plans aren’t going as you want and you make so many technical mistakes gathered , it isn’t the wood’s fault . It is yours . But it’s ok , you can fix things easily .

Relax and then enjoy our astonishing hobby .

Make a step back , make a cup of coffee , relax your brain and soul a little and then return to your wooden works . You’ll see everything fixed in the “auto mode” .

Continue to give your self happiness , through wood .
