Even if your woodworking bench will have many of the vices you’ll need to start your woodworking projects , eventually you’ll need to purchase some extra vices , to complete your tools “armory” .

My strong suggestion is to try to combine some not so expensive vices but very nice ones , with a one or a couple of more expensive ones , in order to make a woodwokring tools “armory” , that will last forever .
So let’s begin my not so expensive( but very good choices ) suggestions and some more expensive ones :

For its price , it has a general quality way above what you’ll expect maybe .

This Wilton , ductile iron and cast iron 8″ vice has a 30000 pounds tightening strength and its sturdiness , strength and craftmanship , is from “another planet” .

It doesn’t only have the looks of a vice “beast” , it is one and i cannot hide my enthusiasm in here . You should have a very steady surface to attach it and use good quality’s bolts for this heavy-duty “beast” .
Use it , abuse it , do whatever you like this vice will be your legacy to your kids and your kid’s kids .
It’s maybe a “wild beast” but it runs smoothy and obeys whatever job you’ll put it . Yes it isn’t cheap , but if you can have only one , THIS IS the vice you need .

This 7″ heavy-duty , 30.000psi cast iron vise is a very fine quick release and adjustment vice for your wood bench and you can check more on Amazon in here .
These type of vices is a “must” for every carpenter’s bench , because they have the big advantage of the bigger jaw width , than the classical bench vices .
This Yost has a jaw width of 7″ and 8″ of opening and this gives bigger comfort to hold more steady smaller or kind of different size wood pieces in order to work with them .
Marking , planing , sanding , cutting , measuring , drilling , etc , “difficult” sized wood , with zero damage to the wood( jaws alignment is perfect) , becomes way more easy for every one .

Of course the biggest advantage of this vice it’s its portability ( that’s why it’s called smart i suppose ) , but not only that . It’s very well made and solid and you won’t have to worry that it may bent , crack , or whatever if you attach it to a “difficult” surface to woodwork .
It has a satisfying size to give you comfort to work with many wood sizes ( 15″x3.5″x25.4″) , its’ easy to assemble ( use some soap to screw easier the screws . See a helpful post explaining ) and it has the appropriate weight for stability .
It’s amazing for small-medium size woodworking projects , for wood carving , miniature carving-modeling is just perfect and the general quality is very-very-very nice .
Of course don’t forget that all this isn’t metalic , but wooden , so it needs a little more care when you act with it .
Having one or all the previous vice types , i think you’ll have all the vices machinery , you need for your carpentry , in order to work with tiny or very large woodworking projects and ideas .
