You can use your hand chisels and your drills to make holes and mortises in wood , but the hollow chisel mortiser will do the job , more easy , fast and correctly , in my opinion .
Using a mortiser you’ll have perfect squareness , finishing of the mortise edges and generally , more accurate result .

Again i don’t think you should spend all your money to buy a super expensive mortiser , except it you’re a professional carpenter , making difficult cabinetry , et.c .
This Jet Benchtop Mortiser , with a maximum 1750 RPM is a very good choice in the mid area of money . It has a very reliable rack and pinion head agjustment and it’s a heavy – duty focused mortiser .
The mortising handle is very comfortable and you can change the position of the feed handle , as you wish .
You’ll feel it solid from the 1st touch and if your drills will be the appropriate it won’t hesitate to any type of hardwood . The set up is easy , the assembling is easy , but the manual could be a little more detailed .
A helpful and a very nice feature is that the pull handle can be locked to any position you like , to do checkings, et.c .
The 3 included chisels are welcomed and they’re well sharpened . it’s a very nice mortiser . The hobbuist will love it ( it’s a first class , first choice ) , the more experienced will love it .

Fornow i don’t have any other mortiser tolike very much , to suggest you( i’m seeing of some , but i want to use them a little ) , but i have 2 very fine mortiser chisels from Grizzly and Powermatic .
The Grizzly isn’t expensive , but the Powermatic is kind of expensive . Both , they have quality and craftmanship , way above the average .
I’ve more experience with the Grizzly , because it’s more price reachable and many friends have the same or similar .
