All the variety of the handsaws( dovetail , rip , crosscut , et.c ) , you’ll find in woodworking are seperated in the three big categories of panel saws , back saws and frame saws .
Before i’ll proceed to my favorite handsaws and my suggestions , let me give you a quick reminder :
1) Panel Saws .
They are the totally flexible ones , made by a thin blade having in one side the teeth and in the other nothingand called : the back of the saw . They also have a handle of course .
There are very common ones and we cut wood in all the directions we like .
2) The Back Saws .
They are for more precise wood cutting and in their back they have a brass – steel metal , in order to avoid the saw bending . Their teeth are smaller and make very precise cuts .
3) The Frame Saws .
In here we have two “arms” and by using the tension power we keep a cutting blade tight , in order to cut wood .
If you want the complete handsaw post with extented information , go HERE .
** At the end of this post i’ll give you a complete list of the most wanted saw brands .
So let’s begin with my suggestions :
The Gyokucho Razorsaw Flush Cutting Double Edge Saw 125mm with Wood Handle .
The Japanese style handsaws are a “must” for all the woodworkers and this is a very elite saw suggestion for you , made by top steel with cross-cut teeth in its sides and a fine beech wood handle .
Make your price checking and purchase on Amazon in here .
This little Japanese “beast” cuts very smoothly , without damaging the surface as its teeth have no set and i think this is its big advantage . Be careful not to treat it as a European or US , “push saw” . It’s a PULL saw and this is how it works perfectly .
No disadvantages in here and yes , i like the japanese woodworking mentality and products very much .
** If you want the complete Japanese handsaw list-series go in HERE on Amazon .
This DEWALT Double Edge Pull Saw , Japanese style handsaw is a very nice suggestion for you and its craftmanship is in the well known Dewalt standarts of quality and resistance .
Is isn’t an expensive handsaw , It’s around to the 20$ and it has 7TPI( “teeth” per inch ) and 14TPI in its two cutting edges .
It’s alloy steel quality is in the top of the stell “pyramid” for sure .
Go to the Amazon and make your purchase in HERE .
Having the same approach as the Japanese style saws , this coping saw for your inside holes cuttings from the Stanley is needed when you want to cut – shape – “clean” the inside of a woodworking design .
It’s super sharp in order to give you flexibility and precision and you won’t have any issue while you’re cutting “strange” and difficult patterns .
It has a 7TPI number for its “teeth” and the handle is plastic . In here i may have a word to say because i like the wooden handles , but i suppose it’s ok .
You can see the final details and make your buy from Amazon , in HERE .
The next frame , coping saw i think it’s a very nice and will help the most , your inside curved designs and you’ll may remember your kid school years .
This Groz frae saw is very easy to use from anyone and i don’t think there is a person who hasn’t used this kind of saw iin his life .
Its great advantage is , its precision and the total control it gives you whan you cut circles , arcs , et.c .
It comes with a saw blade attached and it’s chrome coated finish for resistance to wear . You won’t have to have another one , you only need to change and purchase blades to attach .
It’s super cheap and you may go to Amazon to supply it , in HERE .
You can make your dovetail cuts with a Japanese handsaw , but having a dovetail handsaw is better , because it’ll give you more handle(plastic) comfort to cut precise , your joinery pieces .
This Bahco 10″ is a fine choice and it isn’t expensive , it’s in the 20$ bucks area . You can make more cuts and not only your dovetail , but its 15TPI “teeth” are focused in the dovetail area .
If you want to purchase it and see more , go to Amazon here .
For general wood cuttings the next 3 set Vanquish ones are very good choices and they have a big advantage in my opinion .
There’re Teflon coated handsaws , which is super good for your wooden cuttings if you consider that the tree – wood fluids , give rust themes during times to a “common” no – coated saw .
The teflon also gives super cutting speed , compared to the not coated ones .
They have ergonomical handles and a nice touch -feeling while cutting and 11TPI , to cover a wide range of general cuttings .
I always liked this type of saw , becasue of their very comfy handle ones , their sharpness and the anti – rust blades coating .
You can have all these 3 handsaw set of 3 saw in the area of 30$ !!!!!
Go to Amazon for your final checks and buy in here .
For sure you need to have in your woodworking tool “armor” a very nice frame saw see this :
The Hyuduo Frame Saw Blade, Carpenter Hand Bow Wood Cutting Tool , (Large (580mm)) .
The frame type of handsaws are very nice in concerning the feeling while cutting and there’re very stable while you cut a log or whatever . This is a very nive frame saw made from manganese steel giving a high resistance to abrasion , being very durable and comfortable to work with .
Make your purchase on Amazon in here .
It’s designed( semi circular inner arcs ) to work with it , having the less possible fatique and the teak wood is very well finished . The teak wood is famous for its strength and resistance to wear and time .
Remember something about the wood types and their characteristics in HERE .
