The correct use with accuracy and the total control for making holes or “dig” your mortises is very essential in woodworking and the power drill press , gives what you want in here .
Yes , you can maybe do the drilling job with a traditional hand drill , but in no way with the same precision of a nice bench or floor standing drill press .
See the extended and more detailed post for the drill presses and their “secrets” in HERE .
Now , i’ll give you some drill press suggestions , which i think are the most appropriate for your drills . With some types of them i have extended experience and with some not so much , but enough to have a full icon , of their properties .
My buying mentality is known to you . “Start from low money and then if needed escalate to more . “
The 2″ depth , Dremel Drill Press , fully Portable with wrench .
This Dremel drill press , is a tool i like very much and i think that this is a very smart buying choice . It costs less(!) than 50$ and it’s so capable .
Frist of all it’s s Dremel tool . Then you can make angled holes and vertical as well and you can adjust your depths with its markings very easily and precise . It’s a 2″ depth drill .
It’s compatible with “million” other dremel rotary models and accessories , as dremel has this versatile mentality for its tools . You’ll be amazed of how much accuracy , well made construction and quality you’ll get for less than 50$( ok , plus shipping) .
It’s easy to use , portable like nothing else ( you can place it anywhere ) and handy . This is a first class choice for a new woodworker and not only .
Mkae your final checkings and get it from Amazon .
After this very smart combination of price and abilities , this drill press is a nice next step .
This SKIL 6.2 Amp 10″ , 5-Speed Benchtop Drill Press with Laser Alignment , costs more than the previous dremel , but i don’t think you’ll need more than this .
It’s a 10″ powerful ( 610RPM – 2800RPM ) benchtop press , with adjustable depth and table and a laser alignment helping light .
The center column may seem that it could be a little more stable , but you won’t have a stability theme . The setup is easy for anyone even if you haven’t done something similar abd the quality is the one you expect from Skil .
You know many people think that you should be very careful for the country your product is made , but i have another approach .
” The respectable and top prestige companies , don’t leave things in luck , no matter where their products are made .”
Go to Amazon , make your final checkings and purchase it in here .
As a very helpful accessory , i always liked this Milecraft Drill Block , having the most of the common drill hole sizes . It’s very helpful especially when you want to drill in an angle , or just you don’t want to secure your drills .
Yes , it’s for the traditional drills mostly , but you can use it with your drill press .
Get it from Amazon , for less than 10$ .
Having this IRWIN 14 set of carbon steel bits , for 50$ plus some shiping is another “must” accessory for your drill press , in my opinion .
The quality is excellent , the sharpness is very high level and you there’re made for drilling soft or hard wood , with the same effectiveness . IRWIN is making very good stuff .
Get it from Amazon in here .
I don’t think you should spend more money to buy something more specific in this area of drilling . Having a nice bench drill press , a very portable as the Dremel one , some bits and a drill block helper , i think you’ll be complete for the 99% of your drills .
Keep Woodworking and be safe .
