What are the Rarest wood types in woodworking ?

You can find “common” and very popular wood trunks , logs , et.c , very easily and in best prices , but there is wood which you can find more rarely , to use it for your woodworking projects .

The wood in general is seperated to 3 big categories and many thousand sub categories and varieties and as you can imagine some wood species are very rare to find , because of many reasons .

The general properties of wood and of course the beautiness it provides to people , are the basic criteria we use to seperate wood .

If the above basic criteria are very specialized , then we talk about a rare wood type to find and of course very expensive to get .

What is the most Exotic type of wood ?

The most exotic wood you can find is the cocobolo , the snake wood , the ironwood , some very rare and exotic black – deep crimson rosewood in Turkey , the Pecan chestnut , the central USA guajava , the papaya in Mexico , the lychee in Malaysia – China and many more in the southern places of planet earth .

Why Ebony is so Rare and expensive ?

Ebony is the only total black colored wood type on earth having the biggest density ( it shinks in water ) and we don’t have big quantities of it , thing that makes it extremely rare to find and when you find some , you can only have small to medium sized pieces and not big ones .

Some of the Rarest Wood Types on Earth , are :

1) The Lemon tree .

2) The Pear tree .

3) The Mulberry and the Wild one mostly .

4) Some very rare varieties of Walnuts( the Persian are very nice and rare type ) – Chestnuts from the Mount Athos in Greece .

5) The Japanese Oak .

6) The Eastern Africa’s Olivewood .

7) The Silky Oak of Australia .

8) The Apple tree .

9) The Macassar Ebony , from India .

10) The Yamazukura Cherry from Japan .

11) The Iranian – Persian Boxwood .

12) The Sycamore Plane .

The Exotic Wood is also Rare to find .

The exotic trees in the world are producing very rare wood pieces and you should search and pay a lot of money to supply them .

The Central Africa and generally Africa , the distant areas in the States , the “wild” forests in Brazil , New Zealand , Australia , Mozambique , Madagascar , Argentina , Paraguay , India and many more are some exotic places , producing rare wood .

These wood pieces are very impressive to our “common” eyesight and they are very beautiful to create a wood project .

Amaranth with an astonishing purple color , violet from Brazil , Greenheart from the US , Ebony from Africa Brazil , Iroko and Makore from the forests in Africa , the California’s famous Redwood , the very famous teak wood from many countries and North’s Amerika’s hickory are some of the more rarely to find wood , also .

Expensive wood exists , to make the best wood projects you like and its expensive not only for its beautiness , but for the big effort to get it .

You can find wood having several colors , properties , “water” shapes and other wood properties , but some wood pieces are difficult to find and supply .

Some wood is very difficult to find it in nature , in the size , quantities and shape we want , that’s why we say that it’s rare wood .

The walnut wood piece in your luxury car’s interior is very nice , but can you imagine how difficult is to “drag” the wood piece you need , using the rosewood tree root ?

These roots should be big and well shaped enough , to use them in the interior of our cars and wherever else for our decoration . The rifle and gun manufacturers are very strict to their wood choices , because they want the best shaped “waters” for their guns .

Wooden furniture from Rare wood , needs “big wallet” .

So if you want to make a wood plan and you want this to be from a “luxury” and rare wood , you should be prepared to give a couple(!) of bucks more .

You know in life the rare “things” are expensive and hard to find , in any area .

The general “law” which exists for all the materials on earth , exists for the wood “planet” too . The rarer and harder it is to find something , the higher its price .

Knowing as much as you can for the rare wood , you will have the ability to know if the price it has , is realistic or not .

Keep woodworking and keep “trusting” wood , to give you happiness .
