What wood type is the most Important , in woodworking ?

The wood “planet” is endless , and as much as you “deal” with it you learn , but there is some knowledge , which is stable .

All these stable factors and knowledge we have for the wood generally , is working as a “lighthouse” for all of us and they are making our lives easier .

We learn always new “things” , techniques and knowledge , but we all have some steady “rules” we can relay on .

You know , we have 3 basic wood types , but we have thousand species of wood around the globe .

Of course the most expensive wood is a very important wood , but there is wood which is very important , without necessary being extraordinary expensive .

Some of the most important wood types all people are familiar with are the pine(swedish and more ) , the spruce , the walnut , the chestnut , the oak , the mahogany , the olive wood , the willow(pallets) , the ebony , the MDF and more industrial wood , the marine plywood , the cherry wood and some tropical ones .

Of course if we want to be precise , these types of wood are the most “common” and popular in the world for all kinds of wallets , but sometimes it may not be the exact wood type you want .

The most important wood type for every carpenter out there , is the one that fulfills his woodworking needs in the biggest grade even if it’s not too expensive or rare to find . The most important wood is the one you want , for the business you want .

The most important wood isn’t necessary something extraordinary elite and very difficult to find by a woodworker .

If you create wooden toys , i suppose you don’t need mahogany or ebony or a very rare tropical wood type for the “job” .

You can make them using every “soft” wood type ( to be sculptured easily ) , or a “hard” type , if you like its grain or whatever else you judge that it’ll do your wood “mission” .

If you’re a kitchen focused cabinet maker you need the specific types of wood , usually people use for their kitchens . If you’re a piano maker you’ll need more expensive special wood and ebony for the keys , for sure .

If you’re a gun – rifle maker you’ll need the exact wood type , to withstand the hunting conditions a fun is exposed and for sure , aren’t very “soft” conditions .

If you’re a luxury car manufacturer , you’ll need the appropriate luxury wood , to decorate the car’s dashboard and its interior in general .

If you’re a boat creator you’ll need specific types of wood and with specialized properties to withstand the salty sea conditions and for sure this wood should be meticulously protected .

If you want a wood protection article reminder , see it in HERE .

So even if many people think that only the “hard” types of wood , or the most rare to find and “luxury” ones are the most important wood types , but this isn’t always the correct and useful approach and mentality .

Yes the “hard” types and rare wood has some properties and beauty that are very unique and rare to find in large ammounts , but this doesn’t mean that it’s the appropriate for the woodworking project you want to make .

If you want to match your carpenter needs to the exact wood type , knowledge and experience are necessary mindset “tools” for you .

Take your time , make your woodworking job analysis very meticulously and then go out to the stores and purchase your appropriate wood type . You’ll avoid failures and dissapointments for sure , in this way .

Effectiveness is for sure a sign of a good caprenter , among many other elements , as i’ve written in HERE .

Keep woodworking and gain happiness from it .
