1) The weather should be hot and the wood as dry as you can , that’s why you should paint shower in summer season and of course with zero water moisture in the room generally .

2) Prepare you wood perfectly with your sanders and be cautious to any knott the wood may have . We don;t want “bleedings” from them .

3) Use the best fillers – sealers to fill the pores of the wood , as much s you can .

4) Use the best acrylic or polyurethane paint you can possible can .

5) Make as many coats it needed and let them dry totally before the reapplying .

6) Make sanding corrections between the coats if needed .

7) Let the paint dry completely and use the best possible polyurethane topcoat sealer .

Yes , you can do that by using a nice polyurethane topcoat sealer and use the “building” method .

Many light layers , complete drying repeat the process .

The surface of this old wood should be 100% clean from any previous factor and if it has damages , you should fix them , before you proceed to prepare – paint it .

Can you Re-paint , Old wood ?

Yes you can , but you should clean it perfectly from any previous coating and bring its surface into top condition , in order to get top results .

You’ll add many years of life , to this kind of troubled or just old wood .

Do you need to Sand Old wood , before paint ?

Yes , i suggest you to sand it because no matter how clean or well is an old wood , it’ll have smaller or biger moisture issues , fading issues , maybe hydration and wear issues and all these problems , deep in its fibers .

The sanding will clean it deep and unveil any other hidden themes , it may has as blue spots , bugs – fungi issues , black spots , mould , et.c .

Can you paint , Over Dirty wood ?

It’s not “forbitten” by any law , but i don’t suggest you do that . You’ll only give a very small “artificial respiration” to it , before it “dies” , if it’s a badly wounded wood .

If you have a healthy but dirty wood , you’ll only mess things out if you just paint it , as it is . Zero uniformity , zero protection , zero beautiness , zero long lasting result .

We usually do that when we we’re very bored for a reason to deal with a wood piece , or this wood piece doesn’t have much “life” left .

The correct way is top preparation and then a top paint choice and a top topcoat to seal all this .

Can you paint , over Raw wood ?

Yes , you can do it , but you won’t get much of a result in any serious way . Especially if this raw wood has its peel on it , you’ll just make a “hole in the water” .

The paint will paint the peel and doesn’t reach the inside at all .

If you want to keep this raw condition for your wood you can just clean it , sand it a little so you won’t destroy its primitive beauty and use a nice paint to keep this primitive beauty .

What happens if you paint Untreated wood ?

If this wood type is a type with any inner fluids , resins , et.c you’ll have serious problems when these fluids resins , mixed with your paint , “bleeding” on it from the inside .

Especially if this wood has many knotts and the fluid come out from these knots , your problems will skyrocket high .

There are two types of wood that they seriously bleed their fluids in wet conditions and even if there are very nice wood types , there’re kind of “forbitten” for continuous wet conditions .

What paint goes Well on wood ?

This depends from the wood types you have and its general density and properties and of course what is your purpose using a paint for wood .

Usually the majority of the oil based paints “sit” well for the majority of the wood types .

Is it a good Idea to paint wood ?

Yes , certainly it is and except the color change and this kind of stuff with paint you protect , seal , fill pores and you make your wood not only look nice , but you maintain it in a high level .

The painted wood is a nice and a basic wood finishing .

Do i need a Special paint for wood ?

You need the appropriate paint to use on your wood , that has the appropriate and correct chemical formuls , to cover the wood’s specific needs and general “behavior” , which is diffrent than the other elements .

Why is wood paint , Different ?

The wood is an “alive” material -elements and it’s not plastic , metal , aluminum , carbon and whatever else exists on earth .

The wood acts and reacts different than the other materials , to the weather conditions , the UVs , the moisture , the temperature and the aggresive changes of temperature , the acids and the so many external and internal circustances .

The wood , molecules and existance needs totally different chemical formulas and approach , if you wanto to create effective products for wood .

Does wood , Rot is painted ?

Yes , you can paint above rot if you like and you don’t want to cure this problem , but you should know that the results won’t be dramatically good and effective .

If you paint above rot , you’ll just delay the rotting a little .

Does Acrylic paint , be used on wood ?

Yes , you can certainly use acrylic paint on wood and it’s a very capable wood finishing .

Will Acrylic paint , “Bleed” on wood ?

Yes , you can have some bleeding themes with an acrylic paint , if your wood has resins or inner fluids in a high level and these fluids come up to the surface , caused from moisture or other factors .

Of course your applying moves , are affecting the paint “bleeding” and you should apply paint , with few amounts on your brush and many times .

The “building” ( many light coats – many times ) method is always a great applying solution .

Does Rain , wash away Acrylic paint ?

Yes , you may have wash away issues from rain , if the acrylic paint isn’t fully dried .

Is Acrylic paint on wood , Waterproof ?

Yes , in a very high level , because it creates a very strong coverage film on wood , protecting it from the general water conditions , very much .

How do you make Acrylic paint , Permanent on wood ?

Totally permanent and for ever no material on earth can remain on wood , but you can make your paint last a very long time , if you use a very good topcoat , above it as a polyurethane finish .

Will Acrylic paint , Last on wood Outside ?

Yes , the acrylic paint is very capable for the outdoor conditions and it provides a very strong but flexible and elastic protection , on wood and furthermore it’s very capable to the moisture conditions .

What is the best paint for Outdoor use ?

The 100% acrylic latex paint is an extremely good and strong paint for the outdoor use .

Do i need to Prime outdoor wood , Before paint ?

Yes , if you want to have the best possible final result , that will have good uniformity , you’ll avoid the peel off and your paint will bond better and stronger to a nice primer .

The primer makes the woodens urface more ready for your paint and of course the applying and the looks of the surface will be very nice .

If you want to have a perfect result , i suggest you to use a primer .

What happens if you Don’t Prime Exterior wood ?

You’ll have for sure uniformity problems and if your wood has serious gaps and cracks that need filling , this problems will be bigger .

You’ll have general adhesive problems and your applying will be more difficult . The peel off and the cracks are always an issue if you don’t prime – prepare an outside wood .

Why does Acrylic paint , Peel off wood ?

The big and “aggresive” contractions and expansions , loosen the molecules , causing the peel off issue .

Can you paint Direclty on wood ?

Yes , surely you can paint direclty on wood if you like , but you’ll get better results if you prepare a little your wood with a fine sealer , a primer , et.c .

If you paint directly on wood , you’lll need surely more paint quantities and the generic uniformity , won’t be ideal .

What happens if you paint wood , Before it dries ?

You’ll have serious adhesive problems , very big drying problems , very big applying problems , general and big “bleeding” problems , peel off problems if you close moisture inside and generally , i highly don’t suggest you , do that .

Is it Ok , to paint wood , without Sanding ?

Yes , you may not sand your wood if you like to have a more rough look , but you’ll need more paint quantities of course and if your wood has serious uniformity issues , your final result won’t be very beautiful .

The applying is harder to a not sanded wood and the drying times will be bigger .

What happens , if you Don’t Sand wood Before paint ?

You’ll face uniformity problems , you’ll need more paint quantities , you’ll need more drying time , your final result will be more rough and primitive , you’ll need more coats for good coverage , your applying will be harder for you and your equipment .

Should i Sand , After the First coat of paint ?

Yes , if you want to but very “surgical” and light in order to fix some minor errors and “bleedings” and you want to prepare your surface for the next coats and preserve the generic uniformity .

Is it Ok , to Sand Between the paint coats ?

Yes , it is and in this way you prepare your wooden surface for the next layers and you preserve the generic uniformity and smoothness .

Can i paint Over Stained wood , Without Sanding ?

Yes you can do it , but you should be aware that the strong pigments of the stain , may cause some uniformity issues and because the stain emphasize the grain , you’ll need more paint coverage coats .

Can i paint Immediatelly , After Sanding ?

Yes surely you can , just be certain that the surface is clean from the wood dust .

Is it Better to paint wood with a Roller or Brush ?

This depends from the size and the design your wooden surface has and of course for the large and flat boards – panels , we choose the roller and for the smaller and more difficult design , we use the brushes .

How do you Prevent Roller marks , when paint wood ?

Use not plenty of paint , don’t “drown” your roller to paint , wipe off the excess , adapt your applying pressure and try to paint in straight lines and patterns without big corners and “zig zacks” .

If you can start and finish following a straight line , even better .

Wait the one layer – coat to fully dry , before you proceed to the next one .

Will roller marks , Go Away , when the paint dries ?

Unfortunately , no they won’t go away and that’s why you should make your best to avoid them .

How do you paint wood , Without Brush marks ?

Don’t “drown” your brush into “tons” of paint , apply in straight lines and avoid the big curves – corners , use steady and medium strength to your brush and of course let the previous coat , to dry before you make the next one .

Of course the well sanded and clean surface and a very good brush are needed .

Is it better to Paint wood or Spray paint ?

This depends from the size of the surface you have , the final result you want to provide ( the spray is more uniform ) and the bonding you want your paint has with the wood’s fibers .

The brush and the applying moves , create better molecule bonding and deeper coverage , than a spray film .

Does Spray paint , Stay on wood ?

Yes of course it stays and it won’t have any adhesive issue to any type of wood .

Do i need to Seal wood , Before paint ?

Yes , if you like to have the best possible uniformity result , big smoothness , easier applying , less paint quantity and a good preparation for your several coats .

What do you put in wood , Before paint ?

You clean your wood from previous elements using the appropriate solvents , mineral spirits , et.c and after your sanding or not you can use fillers , sealers , primers and maybe some wood stucko to fill big gaps .

Of course your wood should be healthy and not have bugs , fungi problems , rot , or mold issues , because in this case you’ll need to use the correct medicines , before all your primers , sealers , et.c .

Do i need to Prime wood , Before paint ?

It’s better to use a primer to make your wooden surface more ready and uniform to recieve the wood paint and make your applying easier .

What is the Difference between , wood Primer and wood Paint ?

The wood primer is an element that is created with a chemical formula to penetrate inside wood and make it stronger , more stable , seal it and stabilize it and all these for a long time and making it more uniform .

The chemical formula of the paint is totally different and the pigments are made to change the wood’s color and keep this color , for a long time .

Why can’t you use Primer as paint ?

There are totally different materials for the wood finishing and treatment , they have totally different chemical formulas and their “missions” are targeteg to different areas for the wood .

You don’t have the results you want and need , if you try to replace the one with the other .

Can i paint , Without Undercoat ?

Yes , you can and it’s not necessary to use an undercoat , if your needs require only the use of wood paint .

What paint , Doesn’t need Primer for wood ?

The natural chalk paint doesn’t need a primer and it provides amazing results .

What Primer is best , for painting wood ?

The oil based primers are the most capable for the wood paint , undercoats .

What happens if you Don’t paint , Over Primer ?

You’ll create a wooden piece , which has its pores filled with a primer and there are ready for your next finishing steps .

If you leave the wood only with the primer on it and nothing else , your wood will be unprotected to the general weather , et. c , conditions . You should do something for its maintenance .

How do you Seal wood paint ?

You can use a varnish ( natural or not ) , a natural wax or a mixture of waxes , laquer , a sealer mix of oils or a chemical based one , shellac and of course a top polyurethane varnish – sealer , to make your paint “bulletproof ” .

How many Coats of paint on wood ?

This depends from the type of wood you have and the condition of its pores and surface , the undercoat you’ve used , the type and quality of the paint and the final appearence you want o give to your wood .
